Semi Classical

Semi-classical music has its roots in Hindustani classical music. Thumri, Dadra, Tappa, Hori, gazal, bhajan, and other types of music fall within this category. Although they are based on Ragas, these types of music do not strictly adhere to the raga’s regulations. Because of its simplicity, it is more accessible and popular than traditional classical music.

Thumri was initially a vocal form tied to the Kathak dance. Women performers used adaa or hand gestures and facial expressions to communicate the multi-layered imagery hidden in the song-text, including its connotations. Dadra is a light classical vocal form with six beats divided into two equal three-beat sections.

Tappa is Pashto folk literature's oldest and most popular form of semi-classical music. This form of Pashto folk poetry has been around for centuries. Hybrid classical music called Hori is prevalent in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. It can be embellished with Bhairavi, Thumri, and other ornaments. It is one of the major genres of classical music in India.

Originated from the Indian subcontinent, Qawwali is a style of Sufi Islamic devotional song that is particularly popular in Pakistan's Punjab and Sindh regions. In Arabic poetry, the ghazal is an amatory poem or ode. This type of poetry comprises five to fifteen couplets that are all separate but linked in terms of their content and poetic structure.
