violin (also known as a fiddle) is a chordophone (string instrument) made out of wood. Most violins have a hollow wood body, which makes them easy to play with. Because of its small size, it has the highest pitch of all the instruments in the family. It's a beautiful instrument.
Normally tuned in perfect fifths, the violin has four strings and is played by stroking a bow over the strings with the notes G3, D4, A4, and E5. In certain instances, it can also be played by plucking the strings with the fingers (pizzicato) or striking the strings with the wooden side of the bow.
Violins play an important role in a variety of musical genres. They are most well-known in the Western classical tradition, where they can be found in groups as well as solo instruments. There is no folk music without the violin, whether it is country, bluegrass, or jazz. This is one popular instrument that is mastered by attending the right violin classes.
Some kinds of rock music and jazz fusion, use electric violins with solid bodies and piezoelectric pickups. This is done by hooking the pickups into instrument amplifiers and speakers to produce sound. Indian and Iranian music are examples of non-Western music civilizations that have adopted the violin.
